In Jerusalem, is the holy ground an icon? Is it against God to crave land like that?

The Jews, Muslims and Christians all want control of the Temple Mount so they can worship on the holy spot. Does that, in a way, make the holy spot an icon? When a physical thing is revered as holy, does that make it an icon? How does God judge people who crave land and create strife over it? No one seems to have a solution, so it's a very dangerous situation.
