Zelda Ocarina Of Time 3D Boss Rush?

I got Zelda Ocarina of time 3d.How do i get Boss rush mode to work???? I went to bed in my house but it wont work. Do i have to beat the game first? I already beat everything up to phantom gannon. but boss rush is not working :(
